Closed for the Season ?

Well, winter is fast approaching as the Nantucket Island quiets down.  Quite a few restaurants and stores have closed their doors as well as lights being turned off in a large amount of homes.  Christmas is just around the corner and we look forward to the celebration of New Years.

Christmas Trees

Downtown Nantucket is decorated in all it's glory.  The Coast Guard decorated this tree to win 2nd place.  Notice the blue branches and ship!
A spectacular tree with all the trimmings.
 Even the fishermen got creative.
I just love the scallops as ornaments.

Take Flight from Nantucket

Nantucket from the sky!  Experience this take off in a 9 passenger plane from Nantucket Airport heading out over the beaches on the southern shore of Nantucket Island.  Also, notice Air Force 2 parked nearby picking up Vice President Biden.

Bike Ride

Nantucket is creating a new bike path along Hummuck Pond Road that will stretch to Cisco Beach.  It's a great ride and will definitely be alot safer for bicylists during tourist season.
This goat isn't stupid - she rests against the cow for warmth.
This one must be a loner :(
This hawk quickly dove to attack a bird's nest after I stopped to catch him on film.
I just realized that the wind was going to make this a tough ride back home.
Yeah !  Made it to the shore.

Gardiner's Compass on Nantucket

How far away are you from Nantucket?
H. Marshall Gardiner came to Nantucket in 1910 and opened a photography shop.  In 1936 he designed this mural based on a compass.  Gardiner's Compass is located in down town Nantucket.

Surrendered to the Will of the Wind

Nor'easter that just passed through Nantucket felt like it brought higher winds then Hurricane Sandy.  Nature took its course, unfortunately.

This unfortunate sailboat ended up on the beach by Washington Street in the Nantucket Harbor.

Just Steps to the Sea

"Sconset" is located on the most eastern part of Nantucket Island.  Spectacular views from the bluff above.

Quite a few steps to the ocean below but beauty all the way!

Bartlett's Farm

Bartlett's Farm is Nantucket's oldest family owned farm where fresh fruits and vegetables are always available. Their tomatoes are the best !!  From baked goods and wine to flowers and plants, they have it all.  Bartlett's Farm is one of my favorite places to visit on island.

A Beautiful Fall Day on Nantucket

An absolutely beautiful day to venture out on Nantucket.  "Front Street" in Sconset is just so charming.
Small shanties border the oyster shell pathways.

Sconset's bluff offers spectacular views.  Seals frolic in the ocean below.

A Quiet Morning on Nantucket

Nantucket Island was earily quiet this morning.   It's a beautiful sunny day and 48 degrees on island. The church bells were ringing and the seagulls were squeeling but Nantucket seemed calm... which is always a good thing.

A quiet morning at the commercial pier.  Many of the island's fishing boats are out scalloping.  Nantucket restaurants have been featuring a variety of scallop entrees which are absolutely fabulous!
This injured seagull finds a sunny resting spot to recouperate.
Shoppers were few and far between this morning.
Nantucket Hotel's shuttle was parked quietly outside.
Nantucket surfers are taking a break since the ocean is also calm today.
 The stillness of Miacomet Pond.
Perhaps the golfers will fit a round in this morning before the afternoon football games.
Yes, Nantucket may be quiet today but it's still quite beautiful.
